Controversial Music Videos

Controversial Music Videos

Over the years there has been controversial music videos that have occurred online by various artists and singers which have had an influence on the audience to the point where debates and arguments happen in the media world.

In lesson we observed a few videos which were classed as controversial by the media's perspective which changed the future of music videos. An example of this is Frankie Goes To Hollywood by Relax, a song released in the 80's which had numerous of complaints for the homophobic message that it betrays and sends to their audience. The music video is the lead singer going into a gay bar and essentially telling all the men in there not to be gay. This was seen as a disgrace and people wanted the song to be removed from radios and music as a whole. One critic was a radio presenter, this critic refused to play the song on the particular radio due to their opinion on the song being so bias towards it being disgusting. Homosexuals in the 80's were looked down upon but was not discriminated by many, this is why the song caused the issues it did. The lyrics also try to persuade people, specifically men to not be gay by saying that you should think about your sexual orientation. This song caused controversy due to the way they demote homosexuals because it isn't right in their opinion.

In my opinion music videos should give their audiences happiness and joy so that they can listen to their favourite bands/artists on a daily basis rather than listening to abusive songs to parts of the community. No song should be abusive and opinions are your own for you to decide, not for other people to determine everyone else's opinions just because they have a strong view with a high amount of people who would back them up due to their popularity.
